Don’t Let People Throw Their Garbage All Over You

I was having a conversation with my boyfriend a while back and he commented on a phrase he’d heard that goes like this:

Sometimes people drive by you in their car, throw all of their garbage out the window at you and then zoom off.

It sounds harsh (or maybe too descriptive), but this has happened to me a couple times in the last few days, so I thought I would touch on this topic. Basically, this scenario occurs when you meet up with someone and they offload all of their crap on you, may it be complaints, negatively-charged words, or something else altogether. Then they leave. They probably feel so much better having had such a good person to “talk” to about their problems and be able to vent out their issues with the world or someone specific. You, on the other hand, are left standing standing on the curb trying to shake everything off and it’s not easy. Especially if you aren’t even aware of what just took place.

Quite honestly, I used to be that person. I am an extroverted thinker. This means that I like to talk things out with other people while I figure things out in my head. I like to get other people’s input and obtain additional perspectives.

But there is a fine line between having a lively, mutually-beneficial discussion and accidentally auto-switching into an energy-charged rant aimed at the person you are talking to and not even at the intended recipient or object of the quarrel.

So if this happens to you, and you end up covered in someone else’s garbage, be sure to get it off you!

An instantaneous way to do this is merely to take some deep breaths and let the other person’s energy fall right off you. It won’t stick unless you let it. You can gently move your hands down your body as if you are wiping yourself clean and encouraging the negative flow down and off you, into the ground. Say some corresponding words if needed, “Thank you for letting me be of assistance to so-and-so, and I now return that person’s negative energy into the Earth.”

If you need something stronger, you can do the same thing in a shower and direct the water to wash away any negativity or foreign energies that have managed to stick to you.

What about you? Have you had this kind of experience? What works for you to cleanse yourself after this kind of flying garbage interaction? Share in the comments below!
